Greek recognition of the Macedonian name and the alphabet

In the seventies of last century the Greek administrations have committed twice, first time in 1977 and the second time in 1982, on the Conference of the United Nations to respect the name Macedonia. Here's what is written in the Greek daily "Kathimerini":

Greek recognition

On the Third Conference of the UN for classification of geographical names, which was held in Athens in 1977, Greece adopted the resolution of the Conference, without any reserves. According to this resolution systems that are accepted in the Annex to this resolution to be adopted as international systems for transcription of the Latin, Serbo-Croatian and Macedonian geographical names in Yugoslavia.

In 1982 on the Fourth Conference of the United Nations, on the same subject held in Geneva, the Greek side proposed the following paragraph:

"Concerning the exonyms, despite the long historical use of Greek toponyms for territories outside the boundaries of today's Greek state, Greece gave support to all relevant resolutions of the Conference of the United Nations for classification of geographical names, especially those concerning: elimination of the exonyms which are in international use (maps, travel documents, advertising material) as quickly as possible, respect for national place names, as they are typified by the competent authorities of the geographical names in each country. "

The text of the resolution was placed in the Greek newspaper "Kathimerini" by journalist K.I. Angelopoulos, an article dated February 14, 1993. All of this means that thirty years ago Athens have recognized our rights to use the name Macedonia and the adjective Macedonian, including language.

Simple and clear in 1982, in Geneva, Greece recognized the name of Macedonia. Under the Agreement with attached documents and maps as material evidence. For its part, Greece has offered maps of their territory that no single region or one area of today's Greek state bears the name of Macedonia. This happened in 1988. The documents were adopted without a vote, by acclamation, on 31 August 1982. The first resolution in 1977 was registered under number E/CONF.69/C.IV/L.4.

Greek recognition

The resolution of 1982 is recorded in the United Nations under the number E/CONF.74/L.107 as part of the conclusions of the Conference for classification of geographical names.

In the register of adopted resolutions is stated that it is prepared by Blagoj Zashev. Greek resolution, however, which includes the above mentioned article in "Kathimerini”, is registered under number E/CONF.74/L.110 and the author is the controversial Evangelos Kofos. 1982 E / CONF 74/L.110 is the number (see above) which is registered under the UN resolution that Greece agrees to the use of the Macedonian alphabet and Macedonian geographical names.
